Between Christmas and New Year's Eve, my sister and I took a quick trip to New Orleans for my birthday. We went to a Saints game, wandered around the French Quarter and shopped Magazine Street. We stayed at the Roosevelt, which was breathtakingly decorated for the holidays.
A few favorites...
We loved brunch at Toast (try the aebleskivers), lunch at Mother's and stopped for a sweet treat + coffee at Sucré. My favorite meal of the entire trip was my birthday dinner at GW Fins. It was perfect and truly delicious from beginning to end. My favorite shops were Hattie Sparks, Lucy Rose and Perch, and there are so many more little gems along Magazine Street.
As you can see from my favorites, food and shopping topped this list. On a slight whim, we went on this ghost tour one night, which took us past Brad and Angelina's house, and the home that inspired American Horror Story Coven(once owned by Nicholas Cage.) It was something fun and different, and a unique way to learn about the city's long and interesting history.
My favorite part of New Orleans is the gorgeous architecture all around. I became obsessed with spotting blue painted porch ceilings -- it was a detail I couldn't get enough of. (More on that Southern tradition here.)
